What is Biomass?
Biomass is biological material derived from living, or recently living plant matter, such as trees or crops processed into fuel and heat. Biomass is a carbon neutral fuel, which takes carbon out of the atmosphere while it’s growing and in return turns the same amount back as it is burnt.
Managed to a sustainable basis, biomass is replenished with new growth as it is harvested. This maintains a closed carbon cycle, with no net increase in carbon dioxide levels, which contribute to global warming and climate change.
Helping the Enviroment
Using wood and wood products as a substitute to fossil fuels means that sustainably managed wood land can provide ongoing contribution to climate change. Biomass can be sourced locally from within the UK on an indefinite basis, which will support the rural economy.
Biomass is a clean and sustainable fuel source. It can supply 100% of your heating and hot water demand, which makes it a viable and preferable alternative to fossil fuel.
Cost Saving
With an eligible installation of a biomass boiler you will qualify for RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) payments. These are quarterly cash payments for ‘Going Green’ and reducing your carbon emissions. The scheme opened on 9 April 2014 to encourage uptake of renewable heating.
